Metaara Medical Technologies Inc. is an early-stage medical device diagnostic technology company based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Our commercial products consist of proprietary 40-minute binary DNA/RNA test kits. Our technology development is based on a low-cost point-of-care non-PCR quantitative DNA/RNA test.

Metaara Management Team

Vincent Lum, CEO, is a past venture capitalist with extensive experience specifically in healthsciences. Vincent was past Chairman of Adnavance Technologies Inc., director of Inovise Taiwan and director and CFO of CardioDigital Inc. Previously, he was Vice President and Venture Partner at MDS Capital Corp, Vice President of the B.C. Medical Innovations Fund and Acting Managing Director at Royal Bank Capital Corporation. Mr. Lum brings over 18 years of industry, investment and venture capital experience to our team and holds a M.Sc. in Immunology and an M.B.A from the University of British Columbia.

Joseph Chow, CFO, is a highly experienced fund manager. His ability to spot investments has resulted in a personal lifetime IRR of over 30%. Mr. Chow was the Managing Director of SB Life Sciences Equity Management LLC, a $100 million bio/medical technology fund, and President of Singapore Bio-Innovations. He has over 10 years of experience as a venture capitalist focusing on life sciences and holds an M.S. in biochemical engineering and an M.B.A. in finance from M.I.T.

Dr. Carl F. Perez, Vice President of Product Development, has 33 years of molecular biology and 24 years of product development experience. Prior to Metaara, Dr. Perez was the Director of R&D and Preclinical Development for Chromos Molecular Systems Inc., a Vancouver-based biotechnology company developing and commercializing an artificial chromosome expression system and monoclonal antibody therapeutics. Dr. Perez holds a Ph.D. in Biophysics from the University of California, Berkley and has been issued 18 US patents with 2 pending.

Barbara Wexler, Vice President of Market Assessment, has an extensive network of contacts and has knowledge in several clinical areas that enable her to quickly assess the viability of medical technologies and develop strategies for market entry and expansion. Ms. Wexler has authored ten reference textbooks and more than 30 contributions to Thomson/Gale publications including the Encyclopedia of Cancer and the Encyclopedia of Nursing and Allied Health and Prentice-Hall and Glencoe-McGraw-Hill texts. She has written 20 consumer books and booklets and has contributed chapters to 11 medical and allied health textbooks. She has provided content and served as developmental editor for 16 texts and seven educational books for consumers. She is the principal writer for electronic media on topics ranging from cardiology and neoplastic diseases to the epidemiology of obesity, medical ethics and evidence-based integrative medicine. She has also prepared more than 200 medical, surgical, psychiatric and long-term care clinical practice guidelines and treatment algorithms for private and public organizations. She also assists companies by navigating them through the regulatory process and by writing/filing regulatory applications. She is a key consultant to biotechnology companies, hospitals, payers and other organizations. She brings more than 25 years of experience as a medical writer, chronic disease epidemiologist, clinician, and specialist in healthcare product development and strategic marketing communications. Ms. Wexler is a graduate of Yale University College of Medicine and its School of Public Health.

Sam Nakai, Vice President of Operations, has over 11 years operational and project management experience in high-technology, manufacturing and government organizations related to research and commercialization. His broad experience in the public and private sectors bring value to the operational team at Metaara. He is also a mechanical engineer by training having developed electro-mechanical systems for point-of-sale equipment for the transportation industry.

Peter Galen, Advisor and Director, brings over 29 years experience developing high-technology products. Over the last 20 years, he has developed and released over 40 medical products and has 14 patents issued and 10 more pending. Mr. Galen was previously the Chief Executive Officer of CardioDigital Inc., the Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Inovise Medical, Welch Allyn’s Managing Director of Emerging Countries and Division R&D Manager at Hewlett-Packard. Mr. Galen earned a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University and Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering with a biomedical focus from the University of Washington.

Metaaara also contracts a number of highly specialized technical personnel to assist with the development of its technologies, run clinical trials, and guide the FDA, Health Canada and CE-mark regulatory process. Metaara also has an extensive network of partners and relationships including design houses, low-cost manufacturers, development groups and research teams to assist with commercialization of diagnostics products.
